Comparison of Human and Lovebird Speech

Abstract
It is well known that parrots and lovebirds imitate the human words if they are trained well. The speech production systems of parrots and lovebirds are different from humans. For example, the length of the vocal tract of a human is almost equal to the whole length of a lovebird. Therefore, it is expected that the time signal of word produced by a lovebird would be different from the time signal of the same word produced by a human. Although, the time signals for the same word produced by a human and a lovebird are different, we still could understand the word produced by a Iovebird. It is important to determine the parameters of lovebird speech which cause us to understand the words spoken by a Iovebird. Knowing those parameters will help us in the field of speech recognition. In this study, the speech produced by a lovebird and by its trainer is analyzed in the time and frequency domain and those properties of the lovebirds' speech which are similar with the humans' are discovered.
Özet
Papağanlar ve muhabbet kuşlarının, iyi eğitilmiş olmaları halinde insan sözlerini taklit ettikleri iyi bilinmektedir. Papağan ve muhabbet kuşlarının konuşma üretim sistemleri insanlardan farklıdır. Örnekler için, bir insanın ses yolunun uzunluğu neredeyse tüm bir cennet papağanı uzunluğuna eşittir. Bu nedenle, bir cennet papağanı tarafından üretilen kelimenin zaman sinyalinin, bir insan tarafından üretilen aynı kelimenin zaman sinyalinden farklı olması beklenir. Her ne kadar bir insan ve bir cennet papağanı tarafından üretilen aynı kelimenin sinyalleri farklı olsa da, bir Cennet Kuşu tarafından üretilen kelimeyi hala anlayabiliriz. Bir cennet papağanı tarafından konuşulan kelimeleri anlamamıza neden olan cennet papağanı konuşma parametrelerinin belirlenmesi önemlidir. Bu parametreleri bilmek, konuşma tanıma alanında bize yardımcı olacaktır. Bu çalışmada, bir cennet papağanı ve onun eğitmeni tarafından üretilen konuşma, zaman ve frekans alanında analiz edilmekte ve muhabbet kuşlarının, insanlara benzer konuşmalarının özellikleri keşfedilmiştir.
